The Geoarchaeological surveys are mainly aimed at identifying sites with a pre-existing archaeological presence, defining the conditions of risk associated with the human activities in areas of such importance and the study of the relationships between environment and human development in the past ages. The reading of the landscape and of its inherited elements provide us important information for this purpose, allowing us to identify the sites of probable human presence and to have information about the relationships between the ancient environments and the local communities.
For this purpose we make use of the examination of aerial photographs, and the visual mapping of the more important places of interest, of specialized analyzes on samples of grounds and ceramic materials. Geophysical integrated surveys in areas potentially affected by buried structures, allow us to assess the size and the spatial distributions of these elements. The check of the goodness of the obtained geophysical models, and / or the calibration of the models, which may be achieved with appropriate archaeological core samples providing directly information on the type, size and depth of the elements buried, making possible also the description of the soils and their eventual recovery.
