Archaeological Coring

The archaeological core samples are executed by using the “a secco”, methodology, in order to preserve the character of the ground samples sampled continuously in drilling. They are made usually after identifying potential “targets” through indirect geophysical surveys (geoelectric, radar, electromagnetic and magnetic). We use in this sense the most appropriate core barrel of diameter between 80 and 101 mm and lengths of 60-80 cm.

The Interpretation of the examined portions of ground (soil forming factors) allows to estimate the thickness of the archaeological layers, to check for buried structures, to reconstruct, through specialized analyzes of soil samples, the palaeo-environments and relationships with the human presence over time.
