The magnetic surveys are based on the measurement of the local spatial variations of the earth’s magnetic field or of its gradient. The magnetic anomalies that are detected reflect the difference between the magnetic susceptibility of the ground encompassing the object-target of the search.
They are mainly used in archaeological research, especially in the presence of brick structures characterized by strong remaining thermal magnetization; for the detection of buried metal bodies, such as pipes and drums buried, for the reclamation of mines and explosive remnants of war; for the reconstruction of geological structures in large scale.
