Measurement of localized variations in the Earth's magnetic field

Magnetic surveys are based on the measurement of localized variations in the Earth's magnetic field or its gradient.

The magnetic anomalies that are detected reflect the difference between the magnetic susceptibility of the incorporating terrain compared to the target object of the research.

They are mainly used in archaeological research, especially in the presence of brick structures characterized by a strong remaining thermal magnetization; for the identification of buried metal bodies, such as underground pipes and drums, for the clearance of mines and war remnants; for the reconstruction of large-scale geological structures.
